2020 is proving to be the year of the 2nd generation of road performance e-bikes. Sleeker and stealthier designs allow for lighter weight options and the end-result is a bike feeling very close to the real thing, but with a 'slight' kick.
Cannondale's SuperSix EVO Neo is a top contender for sweetest looking road e-bike. Using the popular MAHLE ebikemotion motor system, it looks practically identical to the real SuperSix. Not only does it look like the real thing, it retains all the same aerodynamic properties, geometry and overall feel much appreciated from the new SuperSix.
The MAHLE system is revolutionary in it's design. Due to it's size, the battery can fit in the downtube of any regular road bike with an oversized downtube. Although it only offers 250WH in assistance, an external battery pack the shape of a water bottle can be added for an extra 250WH of battery time, or up to 150 km. The motor itself is in the rear hub, connected only through the chainstays. It is most likely the only giveaway for the entire system, looks-wise. It offers up to 250w in assistance and 40nm of torque, which is highly impressive for a drive unit of it's size.
The Neo 2 comes equipped with a full Shimano Ultegra R8000 groupset wrapped around a stiff and lightweight carbon frame. This bike is for anybody who enjoys the feeling of riding a fast and nimble race bike, but would need/prefer to have that extra boost in store for when it matters.
