Giant's Enduro focused Reign is a sure-footed option for riders who prefer the thrill of the descent rather than the strain of the climb. For 2020, it is re-vamped with 29'' wheels for better picking out lines and better speed/acceleration en flatter sections. Any long-travel bike will have a hard time climbing because of the wide-open geometry but the 29'' wheels will help compensate, as does the 11-50 cassette from Sram's NX 12-speed groupset.
The Reign 2 build focuses on quality suspension, with a Rockshox Yari RC 160mm for steep drops and rocky descents. It's users find the back end lively and responsive, which is good for taking hard an fast turns as compression helps keep the wheel on the ground. Weight distribution is such that the rear suspension doesn't squeeze down during climbing, negating the need to flick the switch before climbing.
The Shimano hydraulic brakes offer great and reliable braking in all conditions and the contact switch dropper is also a nice touch. Giant's choice of Maxxis tires is greatly appreciated as tires have a huge effect on trail confidence. It also comes tubeless ready out of the box, latex sealant included. This allows you to experience the benefits of tubeless without dishing out it's cost. Lower tire pressure and incidence of flats are both great reasons to make the switch.
