Ultegra PD-6800 SPD-SL pedals

The Ultegra model is definitely more performance-oriented than the preceding model, the 105. With its carbon fiber body, it’s very light, but mainly very rigid, which maximises power transfer. Also, the PD-6800 use many of the same technologies found on the Dura Ace model, and only weigh 8 grams more. They are aimed at cyclists who want performance but demand durability.

It is also worth noting that the PD-6800 pedals are harder to clip in and out of, due to the stiffer spring they use. While it may suit most, many lighter and smaller size cyclists may find the Ultegra pedals to be a bit hard. The spring tension is adjustable.

The steel plate on the pedal’s body works as a protection device against cleat rub, and is also there to provide added rigidity. It’s made out of stainless steel and is replaceable.
